Bali

After ten years in Asia I finally made it to Bali in May, 2005, after being urged to visit by a friend who lives there. I had avoided it because I had always thought of it as such an arch tourist destination. And Kuta and the surrounding areas are, indeed, pretty awful. But much of Bali, to my surprise, remains simply a particularly beautiful part of Indonesia.  Here are a few photos, taken with my new Nikon D70S, representing my long-delayed plunge into digital photography.

I haven't had time to crop or retouch the photos, other than resizing them, so you are getting them as shot. My years of underwater photography have made me a fan of photographing small wildlife (usually with a 105mm macro lens), so you'll see several insects, all shot in the rice paddies around Ubud. Some of these shots would have benefitted from cropping, but go with it. There are also shots from Lembongan Island and Amed, the area I enjoyed the most. Enjoy.
