I went to Cambodia
twice, once with friends in 1998 and once with my father in 1999. My trips
took me through Phnom Penh, Sihanoukville and Siem Reap. Although Cambodia
doesn't have the placid, isolated feel of neighboring Laos, the Angkorian
temples are among the world's true wonders. Go see them if you can, but
treat them with respect. It is shocking how lightly regulated tourism
in the Angkor area is, and the temples already show the wear and tear
of millions of sweaty hands.
