Beijing: Beihai Park
After
being in Beijing for year I finally got round to bringing a real camera
here. Now I am making up for lost time, trying to capture some of the
things that I like about the city.
One
thing that I enjoy very much is taking walks through Beijing's parks.
With many people living in highrises, the parks become communal city
gardens where children, grandparents and Chinese tour groups collide
with each other. In a city as gray and polluted as Beiing can be, they
are wonderful, colorful refuges.
These
photos were all taken on the same May afternoon, and are mostly from
Beihai, the large park just north of the Forbidden City. Most were shot
at 1600 ASA, and are grainy as a result. The sunsets
photos were taken the same day from the peak of the hill in neighboring
Jingshan (Prospect Hill) park. It was an uncommonly clear day, with the
Western hills sharply visible.
The
final photo was taken during the taxi-ride home.
