Beijing: The Central Lakes
Since
I first arrived in Beijing I have always enjoyed wandering around the
lakes in the middle of the town, and the surrounding hutong
neighborhoods. The lakes, ringed by anglers, remind me of London's
urban ponds, where I spent many a childhood summer. If you can avoid
the "caterpillars" of trishaws taking less energetic tourists through
the area it can be very peaceful area to walk through. In summer, when
the poplar trees are green and providing shade, this is the nicest area
of Beijing.
